HDF developments are considered by the local communities and the wider civic societies of the countries of establishment as contributors to the regional and national economies. Besides its benefits for the power sector, HDF's project also has a wide range of benefits for other sectors. Therefore, we do not underestimate the potential value of a project of this size and scope for Kenya.

 the impact FOR KENYA

  • Environmental impact: the Renewstable® hydrogen power plant will provide clean, stable power, thus mitigating climate change by reducing carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) and other harmful emissions, assisting Kenya to reach the renewable energy targets.

  • Reinforcement of the National Grid in Kenya's coastal region: the project is located in the coastal region of Kenya, in Kwale County, far from the country’s largest generation assets along the Rift valley. Benefits are thus created by localising generation of green, stable power, consequently reducing transmission losses.

  • Accelerating the development of Kenya’s green hydrogen industry: with HDF Energy’s track record worldwide in deploying bankable technology, the Renewstable®  Kwale will be the first-of-its-kind, large-scale, green hydrogen-to-power project in Kenya which will accelerate the country’s green hydrogen agenda as outlined in its Green Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap.

  • Job creation and new skills:  the project extends its benefits far beyond the power sector. By positioning Kenya as a potential green hydrogen hub in East  Africa, it seeks to open doors for increased women and youth participation in the energy workforce, introduce new skills and employment opportunities in the region, nurturing a skilled labour force capable of contributing to the country’s green industrialization ambitions. The project looks to enhance local economic development within Kwale County and surrounding towns of Maji Ya Chumvi and Samburu.
